Our Vision, Values and Beliefs

Our Mission
Our Mission

To move people from where they are to where God wants them to be.

We are called to make disciples of all nations. Our role is lead people into a life changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Matthew 28:18-20; John 17:20-23; Acts 1:8

Our Vision

BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW

We believe that the Bible is inerrant and gives us the clearest image of who God is and what He desires for our lives. It becomes the lens by which we view and live life.

Romans 12:2, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12

AUTHENTIC COMMUNITY

We believe that life was never meant to be lived alone. It was meant to be lived in authentic community on a daily basis with other followers of Jesus. This community not only inspires spiritual growth, but it is attractive to those who don’t know Jesus.

John 13:34-35, Acts 2:42-47, Romans 1:11-12, Romans 12:9-13

CONTAGIOUS GENEROSITY

We believe it is our calling to be generous with all that we have. Everything we have has been given to us from God, so we approach our time, possessions and resources with an attitude of stewardship, not ownership.

Proverbs 11:24, Luke 6:37-38, 2 Corinthians 9:7, 1 Timothy 6:17-19

MISSIONAL LIVING

We believe that missions is not a program through which we are engaged, but a lifestyle by which we are defined. We firmly believe that God has strategically brought people into our lives, whether neighbors, co-workers, family members or strangers, so that we can help them experience the presence and power of God.

Micah 6:8, Matthew 25:31-40, 1 Corinthians 9:19-22, 1 John 3:17-18

MOVING PEOPLE FROM WHERE THEY ARE TO WHERE GOD WANTS THEM TO BE

Our Core Values

Holiness is Our Calling
  • We take God’s call to holiness seriously
  • We embrace repentance as a means of God’s kindness toward us.
  • We rearrange our lives to prioritize God in prayer and purpose.
  • We believe God is good, He loves us and we can trust Him.
Jesus is Our Story
  • We point people to Christ.
  • We believe everyone we meet is someone that Jesus loves enough to die for.
  • We carry the gospel to our family, friends, coworkers and neighbors.
  • We are missionaries in our context.
The Gospel is Our Purpose
  • We empower each person for the work of the gospel.
  • We were born with a purpose and in that purpose we bring glory to God and enjoyment in life.
  • We put Jesus first, others second and ourselves last.
Generosity is is Our Privilege
  • We know God has richly given to us, so it’s an honor to give back to Him our time, talents and treasures.
  • We hold everything God has given us with open hands.
  • We are conduits of God’s love in the world.
  • We know that love costs and since Jesus was willing to pay so great a cost; we love too.

Our Beliefs

We are excited that you would take a moment to learn more about what we believe here at CityLight. Our church is for every culture, background and denomination. With that said, there are truths about God's Word that clearly define our Christian Faith. What you will discover here is how we share the Good News of Jesus (our faith) with the world in both teaching and practice.

CityLight Church has a "two-handed" theology, which holds essential doctrines in a closed fist and non-essential doctrines in an open hand. By this, we mean that some doctrinal stances are essential according to biblically orthodox Christianity (i.e., the Trinity; Jesus' deity, virgin birth, sinless life, death for sin, and resurrection; the authority of the Bible; salvation by grace through faith in Jesus alone; etc). Others are non-essential, because they stem from secondary issues which CityLight holds in an "open hand." A person's salvation does not depend on a particular stance concerning these secondary issues. Please take a few minutes and learn more about our beliefs.

God

We believe in one God—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The Bible

We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.

Mankind

We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.

Fall Of Mankind

We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.

Atonement

We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.

Believers Are To Be Sanctified

We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.

Marriage

We believe in the sacredness of marriage between one man and one woman and family commitment. We promote strong family values.

Jesus Will Return

We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
