DAY 47 – NOV 1
. . . and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:17b.
The Roman sword was equally an offensive and defensive weapon. A great deal of training went into perfecting the technique for both situations. A poorly trained soldier could be easily overcome by an enemy, and even hurt his fellow soldiers on the battlefield. Our sword of the Holy Spirit is the word of God. How well are you trained in using this? If we are to be effective in fighting off enemy attacks or taking new ground for the Kingdom, we must use this sword with skill. All scripture is “breathed out by God” (2 Timothy 3:16) and used properly will accomplish His purpose. Used properly it will destroy the strongholds of the enemy (2 Corinthians 10:4).
We Pray: Mighty God, we know that Your word is living and active, and sharper than any two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). Give us the training through the Holy Spirit to wield this weapon with skill against the devil’s schemes. We know that our battle is not against flesh (2 Corinthians 10:4-5), but against the unseen forces of the enemy. Grants us the victory through your power and in Jesus’ name. Amen.
