DAY 42 – OCT 27
Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth.
Ephesians 6:14a.
While we think of a belt as a simple accessory, in Roman times (when Ephesians was written), a soldier’s belt was a wide piece of leather and metal and held the sword and other weapons. Our spiritual armor holds the weapon of truth. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and this is our weapon against the schemes of our enemy when he causes us to doubt and fear. The soldier’s belt also held a protective piece in front, making it also a defensive weapon as well. As we enter the battle, we wear this important first piece of armor to both protect us and to thwart the plans of our enemy.
We Pray: Mighty God, we rest in the truth of who You are and who Jesus is as we enter the fight. This truth will set us free from our enemy (John 8:32). As we love those around us and battle the true enemy of our souls, help us to remember that you alone are truth. Thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
