DAY 45 – OCT 30
In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.
Ephesians 6:16.
The Roman shield was quite large (almost the size of a door) and could protect the soldier’s entire body. While primarily defensive, it could be used to push an enemy if needed. A group of soldiers could actually position their shields together to form a protective enclosure of sorts. It was often encased in leather and, when wet, extinguish an enemy’s flaming arrows. Our faith is our primary defensive weapon when attacks come (and they will come). Everyone who puts their faith in Jesus has the power of God to overcome our enemy (1 John 5:4).
We Pray: Father, we know faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). Holy Spirit, give us the strength to rely on this faith to defend us from the devil. When we trust You, the enemy’s lies lose their power and his schemes. We thank you for the victory in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
