DAY 44 – OCT 29
. . .and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
Ephesians 6:15.
There is a sudden shift in Paul’s instructions here, as the armor seems less vital. However, in Roman times the shoes or sandals would be studded with nails or spikes. These would ensure that the soldier would not lose his balance when attacking or being attacked. The Gospel is truly our greatest weapon against our foe. When we share the Good News of Jesus and God’s kingdom takes new ground, it is inevitable that this deliverance of peace will cause a counter-offensive from our enemy. Whatever the cost, we must be ready to tell a hurting world of a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
We Pray: God, You are our mighty fortress (Psalm 46:1). It is difficult to remember that one of our greatest weapons against Satan is love. Give us courage to spread the gospel of peace even when we are opposed so that others will come to discover that Jesus is the Savior of the world. Holy Spirit, give us the power to accomplish this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
