DAY 43 – OCT 28
. . .and having put on the breastplate of righteousness.
Ephesians 6:14 b.
The soldier’s breastplate covered the combatant’s vital organs (particularly the heart) and was usually attached to the belt, making this one unit of protection. We are reminded in scripture that above all we are to guard our heart, as everything we do flows from it (Proverbs 4:23). If an enemy destroys your heart he has won the battle. The righteousness of this defensive weapon is not due to anything we have done, but it is all because of Christ. It is his righteousness that we take into battle to protect our hearts from the evil one.
We Pray: Heavenly Father, we are reminded to seek first Your righteousness. It is only through this that our breastplates can protect us from the enemy of our souls. Jesus, we thank you for purchasing our freedom with your sacrifice on the cross and your victory over the grave. Yours is the power and victory forever! Amen.
