DAY 36 – OCT 21
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
John 14:12
At first glance, this verse seems impossible for us to consider. After all, Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, walked on water, etc. How can we do greater things than these? While Jesus is fully God, he was also fully man during his time on earth. He was bound by the confines of a human body, and never left a relatively small geographic area. However, after his resurrection and the coming of Holy Spirit, his disciples spread the gospel not just to the Middle East but to the known (and unknown) world beyond this region. This process of spreading the Good News continues to our day, and we all have a part to play in this. According to the Joshua Project, there are about 17,446 unique people groups in the world, and 7,391 of them are considered unreached. This represents over 42% of the world’s population. While we may never bring the physical dead back to life, we can tell of the gift of eternal life available to those who are spiritually dying. Collectively the church can together do this “greater” work, but only if we rely on the Holy Spirit in our lives.
We Pray: Heavenly Father, it is amazing that the Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in those of us who put our faith in You ( Romans 8:11). Holy Spirit, fall upon us in a mighty way so we can accomplish things that only You can do through us. Help us to reflect Your glory for Your purposes in this world, and we will give You all of the praise in Jesus’ name. Amen.
