DAY 33 – OCT 18
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
1 Peter 4:12-13
As we hear of persecution in the world, we are reminded of these verses from one who suffered greatly for Christ. Particularly in the Middle East, being a follower of Jesus can lead to being ostracized, imprisoned, or put to death. Foreign missionaries caught proselytizing can be expelled or thrown in prison. However, nothing can keep the Word of God from succeeding (Isaiah 55:11). It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that these Gospel workers can rejoice in the midst of these trials.
We Pray: Mighty God, today we lift up those behind “enemy lines.” These foot soldiers for the Gospel are Your hands and feet (Romans 10:15). In addition, empower us through the Holy Spirit in our context and culture to rejoice when trials come our way as Your glory is revealed to those around us. We pray for strength and courage (Joshua 1:9) in Jesus’ name. Amen.
