Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

If we are truly to follow the Way of Jesus, we must die to ourselves daily. Whether this specifically refers to our desires, our wills, or our finances, this choice must be made if we are to follow. Either we will conform to the world or be transformed by God (Romans 12:2). This will look different in the life of every believer, but one thing will remain the same. This decision will be costly (Luke 14:28). However, the rewards far outweigh the losses (Matthew 19:29).
We Pray: Father, we pray in gratitude for all You have done in our lives. We count all other things as worthless in comparison (Philippians 3:8). However, we need Your strength through the Holy Spirit to die to the things of this world. Our enemy wants us to be anxious, but through you we can truly have peace (Philippians 4:6-7). We pray for the courage to follow You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
