DAY 27 – OCT 12
For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.
John 13:15
These words were spoken by Jesus after he washed the disciples’ feet. As we have been reading over the past few weeks, our goals are to be with Jesus, so that we can become like him, so we can do as he did. It is often easier to learn ABOUT Jesus than it is to try to be LIKE Jesus. Still more difficult is to DO AS JESUS DID! He does give us a few simple (but not necessarily easy) examples. Here are two: 1. Share a meal. Jesus ate with “notorious sinners” (prostitutes, tax collectors, etc.). Are we sharing our lives intentionally with nonbelievers? 2. Find where God is at work and join Him. Nicodemus was already seeking God when Jesus met with him (John 3). Are we looking for those seeking God?
We Pray: God, we are thankful for the example You have given us in Jesus. Help us to obey his command to go into the world to make disciples (Matthew 28:19). We know we can’t do this in our own power and strength. We pray for the Holy Spirit to empower us to live like Jesus in our fallen world. We thank You for Your promises in Jesus’ name. Amen.
