DAY 26 – OCT 11
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Proverbs 19:21
I’ve got good news and bad news – you are not in control. There are many things you can accomplish through your own intellect and hard work. But you cannot control where you were born, who your parents are, your genetics, etc. The world tries to convince us we are the masters of our fate. Everything is available at the click of a mouse or the slide of a thumb! The bad news (we think) is that we can’t control all things. There is good news – when we relinquish our need to control every aspect of life, we open ourselves to the grace of God through Jesus. When we release ourselves from trying to be “god”, we allow Jesus to actually be the Good Shepherd that he has promised to be. He still beckons: “Follow me.”
We Pray: Heavenly Father, give us a daily reminder that You alone are God and we are not. When we take You off the throne and put ourselves there it is inevitable that we will be anxious, driven people. But You promise to lead us by still waters (Psalm 23) if we will allow You to lead us. It is only through Jesus that we will find true rest for our souls and true purpose in our lives. Help us to follow you in Your Son’s name. Amen.
