DAY 24 – OCT 9
For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.
Matthew 18:20
We aren’t meant to live the Christian life alone. You may have heard that many times, but our individualistic natures can cause us to question these words spoken by Jesus in our verse today. Community is difficult! A German philosopher compared the human race to a group of porcupines huddling together for warmth on a cold winter’s night. The closer together they get they are more likely to cause each other pain, but if they drift away from each other they will freeze to death. There will be time when we gather that our sin will cause hurt. But if we love and forgive like Jesus, we can grow together into a new adoptive family with our Heavenly Father.
We Pray: Almighty God, we come before You acknowledging that we have hurt others and been hurt by others. Whether intentional or not, we know that pain is the result. We ask for your forgiveness in this, but we know that we are meant to be in community. As iron sharpens iron, (Proverbs 27:17), our lives together play a vital role in our formation as Christ followers. Grant us the perseverance to live lives together for Your glory in Jesus’ name. Amen.
