DAY 22 – OCT 7
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Matthew 6:24
When we think of the dangers of conforming to the world (as opposed to being transformed by the Holy Spirit), it is imperative to view money as a potential snare. The Greek word translated as “money” actually refers to any possession. Possessions aren’t necessarily bad until they control us and draw us away from God. Jesus reminds us that we are to focus our attention on our Creator (as opposed to created things) to find true life. Otherwise our possessions may end up “possessing” us.
We Pray: Heavenly Father, we truly want to find the abundant life (John 10:10) that You promise us through Jesus. However, we repent knowing that we can confuse this promise with the things of this world. Help us to be grateful for what we have, generous with our treasure, and giving of our time and talents. It is only here that we can find the true life that You have in store for us. We pray for the strength to accomplish this through the power of Jesus. Amen.
