DAY 15 – SEPT 30
In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
Psalm 5:3
When one thinks of the word “habit” often bad behaviors come to mind (smoking, swearing, etc.). But habits can be good as well. How do we form these? Through repetition we develop an almost unconscious behavior (positive or negative) at times without even realizing it. Going back to yesterday’s devotion, how can we learn the “habit” of abiding in Jesus when the world intentionally pulls us in the other direction? It may not seem glamorous, but the simple act of making the time we spend with Jesus a designated part of our day makes this habit more like a “get together” than an assignment. Think of it as coffee with Jesus in the morning, or a ride to or from work with Jesus in the car or on the bus (sometimes in silence, sometimes with worship music). Maybe you have time to spend with Jesus at lunch. If you make these times with Jesus a good habit, before you know it, you will be spending time with him and abiding in his love.
We Pray: Jesus, we know that you are worth more than anything this world has to offer. Help us to build time with you into our schedules so that you are not an afterthought or an addition to our lives, but rather, as much a part of our being as the air we breathe. We know we can do anything through you (Philippians 4:13). We pray for your power and leading in all we do, and we pray this in your holy name. Amen.
