DAY 14 – SEPT 29
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
Jesus uses this metaphor to show the disciples (and us) how we are to live the Christian life. First, we must be connected to him (the vine) to accomplish his will on earth in his power. When he says, “you are the branches,” this refers to all of them (and us) collectively. If we are to bear much fruit, we can only do this through his power and with each other to support us. We remain in him by making the daily choice to choose his way. It doesn’t have to be complex (although it is not always easy!). We remain in him while we eat our breakfast. . . while we go to work. . . while we change a diaper. . . .while we cook dinner. Again, it is not complex, but can be difficult to master!
We Pray: Almighty God, we ask for Your strength as we abide in You daily. Help us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) by making daily choices to focus on you instead of the world. We know there will be many distractions but with the power of the Holy Spirit, You will enable us to do this. We pray for your leading in the matchless power of Jesus’ name. Amen.
