Reignite Our Faith

James 2:14-16
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also, faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

As we close our discussion of faith, we read this passage about the evidence of our faith in Jesus.  As we stated earlier, faith is not just belief.  If we have faith, this will be manifested through our love for our brothers, sisters, and the rest of the world.  We are not saved by works, but we are saved by faith for works that God has prepared for us (Ephesians 2:10). Our faith is not just an intellectual pursuit.  It is involves trust and commitment.  As we step out in faith,

we pray:  Our Father in heaven, we love you and trust you.  Our faith in your son Jesus gives us confidence that the work we do in your kingdom is not the reason for our salvation.  Our actions are the evidence of our faith in you and our love for the world you love (John 3:16).  We ask for the Holy Spirit to empower us to accomplish your purposes so that through our faith others will come to faith in you.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
